2025 Programme
Textile Materiality
Fabric Design between Sustainability and Innovation
22 – 31 May 2025
24 July – 2 August 2025
Materiality, even in times of widespread virtual culture, is still the basis of most kinds of art, including textile art. Threads and other textile materials can carry many stories and at the same time be objects of research due to their intrinsic expressiveness.
This year’s theme will focus on textile material and materiality as essential components of the processes and activities in weaving and fabric design.
Course Objective
The course activities aim to develop the visual, aesthetic, tactile and performative experience with different textile materialities by actively exploring the properties and behaviour of the materials through manual interaction. Participants are encouraged to experiment with materials and fibres to develop new design and creative approaches.
Topics covered
At the beginning of each project, the life cycle of the textile materials used is researched.
Topics will be covered such as:
- Mapping of tactile materials
- Functional, performative and expressive characteristics of textile materials.
Participants are free to explore all techniques and tactile practices with yarns mainly made of natural fibres and also include non-textile materials.
Requirements for attendance:
The course is open to everybody
