2023 Programme

Making Textiles

Craft: Material, Form, Technique

18 – 27 May 2023
27 July – 5 August 2023

With ‘Making Textiles’ we intend to capture the revived interest in contemporary culture in individual creative processes such as hand-weaving. The aim will be to rebalance the general trend, also present in textile design, towards the prevalence of form over material. During the course activity we will focus our interest in particular on the fabric formation processes rather than on the form of the finished product.

Course objective
The aim of this course will be to investigate the significance of modern textile craftsmanship as a creative outlet for small production or leisure time, but also as a way to open up new perspectives on making, highlighting the value of creativity and innovation in contemporary textile craft production.
During the courses, traditional practices, skills and knowledge will be adopted and related to contemporary textile culture.

Topics covered
Introduction to the concepts of matter, material and form
Introduction and development of creative processes concerning the use of materials, techniques and tools of contemporary textile design

For inspiration, participants will find in our library an extensive documentation of textiles and ideas suitable for the topic.
